Are there any CBD guidelines?Due to DSHEA guidelines, we cannot specifically state conditions CBD may affect. We encourage you to do your own research, consult with doctors, and use PubMed.gov as a resource. Newly published research is produced in real time through PubMed.gov. Anecdotal evidence and case reports are pushing the research needle forward, but more research is necessary to provide structure and functional claims associated with the use of CBD oil. Hemp contains excellent nutritional value, providing essential nutritional components called Essential Fatty Acids that the human body does not produce naturally. Meaning they can only be consumed through dietary means. Furthermore, emerging scientific research supports the consumption of CBD from hemp oil for general well-being and keeps you healthy, but doesn’t get you “high.” Not only is hemp renewable and fast-growing, but nearly every part of the plant is useable – for food, fiber, building materials, and fuel. With an estimated 25,000 uses, hemp is a veritable super plant. Hemp sequesters CO2 and doesn’t need herbicides to thrive. It also leaves the soil in better condition than before it was planted.

What Am I Putting in My Body?Endocannabinoids are small molecules which bind to activate cannabinoid receptors. Unlike phytocannabinoids, endocannabinoids are produced naturally in the body. They are produced from fat-like cells on demand and have a similar effect to phytocannabinoids. This is seen in how endocannabinoids regulate the communication of neurons as well as the body’s anti-inflammatory response. Flavonoids are a group of phytonutrients found in most plants and, along with caotenoids, are repsonsible for the vivid colors you see among fruits and vegetables. There are approximately 4,000 flavonoid subtypes (flavanols, anthocyanins, isoflavones, etc.). Hemp is often confused with marijuana, as they both belong to Cannabis Sativa L. species, and the two terms are used interchangeably. However, they are different in composition (chemotype) and their applications. While marijuana is mainly used for recreational and medicinal purposes; Hemp can be found as an ingredient in dietary supplements, skin products, clothing, building, and other accessories. Hemp oil is manufactured through an extraction process. This can be done with any plan in the cannabis genus; However, hemp oil is only produced from industrial hemp. This is used specifically for the dramatically low amount of psychoactive substance THC it contains. Hemp oil has a wide range of commercial uses including plastic base alternative to petroleum, paint production, and bio-fuels. Hemp pellets are the edible form of CBD oil for animals. They can be mixed in with veterinarian formulated food that’s easily digestible for horses, pocket pets, farm animals, birds, and more. Tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV) is a psychoactive cannabinoid, but does not work in the same way as THC. it is not found in high amounts in Cannabis plants. Terpenes are responsible for giving cannabis its fragrant scent. Terpenes give each retail strain of cannabis its distinct smell and usually is part of the reason for a strain’s name. The fragrant oils are secreted from the plant’s resin glands, which also produce the THC, CBD, CBC, and other cannnabinoids. Water Soluble CBD oil comes in a variety of applications, some of which are water soluble liquids or powders. Because oil and water do not mix, CBD oil is transformed into a nanoemulsified liquid or powder that can be dissolved in water to manufacture stable finished products or for direct consumption. This offers higher bioavailability (and enhanced efficacy) and makes it more permeable to the skin in topical applications.

How Do You Obtain Your CBD Oil?Family CBD obtains our cannabidiol oil from the hemp plant using the technique of CO2 extraction. We use hemp, rather than other varieties of cannabis, because the hemp plant contains very little THC. The process of CO2 extraction maximizes these benefits, yielding an oil with a full spectrum of healthful cannabinoids and a variety of terpenes, minerals, fatty acids, and vitamins.

What is the Difference Between CBD Oil and the Hemp Products I Buy at the Grocery Store?Hemp products sold in stores are most often made with hemp seed oil, which can contain only trace amounts of CBD. While it has been noted that hemp seed oil can be a great source of nutrition, its marginal quantity of CBD per weight makes it unfeasible as a CBD supplement. Family CBD hemp oil, however, is extracted from the stalk of specifically selected hemp cultivars, offering higher percentages of CBD by weight.

What is CBD, CBN, CBC, CBG and THC?"Cannabidiol (CBD) is a non-psychoactive, naturally-occurring compound found in hemp plants; The second-most active ingredient to be precise. It is THC Free, at less than 0.3%, in comparison to delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). CBD works by interacting with the receptors in ones Endocannabinoid System (ECS). The ECS is our largest receptor system in the body. CBD is puported to have anti-inflammatory properties as well. Our ECS is a network of sensitive receptors running through our entire body so dosing will change with each form of the product. Talk to your doctor to see if CBD is right for you. Cannabinol (CBN) is a cannabinoid found in hemp that binds to the cannabinoid G-protien receptor CB2, whereas CBD binds to the CB1 receptor. Cannabidiol is a naturally occuring cannabinoid constituent of cannabis. It was discovered in 1940 and initially thought not to be pharmaceutically active. It is one of, at least, 113 cannabinoids identified in hemp plants, accounting for up to 40% of the plant’s extract. Cannabichromene (CBC) is also a derivative of CBG, similar to the way THC and CBD are produced. Phytocannabinoids attach to cannabinoid receptors inside the body. A cannabinoid unlocks a cannabinoid receptor and initiates changes in cells that may produce a wide range of beneficial processes. Key differences include its non-psychoactive nature, so there is no euphoria. CBC also binds very poorly to CB receptors. Cannabigerol (CBG) is also known as the ‘parent cannabinoid’ because all cannabinoids like CBD and THC are derivatives of CBG. Most of the CBG in cannabis plants is broken down by enzymes, which convert CBG into either THCA or CBDA. Those components are ‘activated’ by light or heat energy to create THC or CBD, with less than 1% of CBG remaining. Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), or Delta-9-THC, is the most well-known cannabinoid taken from the cannbis plant, maily because of its psychoactive impact when binding with cannabinoid receptors.
-
Are Hemp-Derived Cannabinoids, Such as CBD, as Good as Those Derived from Marijuana?"The short answer is yes. CBD is CBD, whether it is derived from hemp or from marijuana. In fact, hemp tends to be preferred as a source because it usually contains higher concentrations of CBD and other non-psychoactive cannabinoids, such as Cannabichromene (CBC) and Cannabigerol (CBG). Most marijuana contains high levels of THC, the cannabinoid responsible for its psychoactive effects; but, very low levels of these other beneficial, non-psychoactive cannabinoids.

Is a Standard Hemp Seed Oil the Same as a High-CBD Hemp Extract?Absolutely not! Standard hemp seed oil, which can be found inexpensively at many supermarkets, is very different from out CO2 hemp extracts. They are not derived from the hmp seed, which contain a much greater concentration of health rich compounds. Basic hemp seed oil is produced by cold-pressing the seeds of the plant. Family CBD hemp extract, on the other hand, is a super-critical CO2 extraction of the hemp plant itself. While hemp seed oil contains many wonderful nutrients, it does not contain the naturally occurring terpenes, cannabinoids, and other rich elements found in Family CBD extracts.

I Heard the FDA was Shutting Down CBD Companies. Is this True? The FDA has warned companies marketing CBD products not to make any claims about the use of CBD to treat, or prevent, disease. Currently, the FDA has not approved CBD, or any other cannabinoid, for any medical indications and does not currently regard it as having medicinal benefit. Family CBD was not among the companies warned by the FDA, and as an industry leader, we make it a point to remain conservatively compliant with all FDA guidelines. We never make claims about the medical uses of our products; But rather, encourage customers to conduct thorough research and discuss any questions or concerns with your doctor before starting any new dietary supplement.
-
Is CBD Oil Legal, Is it Legal to Purchase?"Yes, CBD oil is derived from hemp and is legal in all 50 states to vary degrees. The Agricultural Act of 2018, also known as The Farm Bill, empowered state departments of agriculture and educational institutions in states that have legalized hemp cultivation to grow the crop for research and pilot programs. Family CBD is legal to buy as we comply with Federal guidelines. Make sure to review your state’s laws prior to buying as several have zero tolerance with regard to THC. Family CBD is legal in all 50 states.

What is Full Spectrum, Broad Spectrum, and Isolate?"Full Spectrum refers to the whole plant extract whose properties are all encompassing of the hemp plant, including the flavenoids, natural fatty acids found in hemp, terpenes, and other cannabinoids (such as CBG, CBN, and trace amounts of THC). This is a complete hemp plant extract with Delta 9-THC, cannabidiol, minor cannabinoids, and terpenes. By preserving the integrity of the whole plant, it ensures the ability of the cannabinoids and terpenes are able to work together synergystically. Similarly, Broad Spectrum refers to products containing all of the health-rich properties of the hemp plant, but contain less than 0.3% THC. Isolate CBD (>99% CBD by potency) has been used for several investigational new drug (IND) applications. CBD Isolate is available in both oil soluble and water soluble formulations. As always, all Family CBD products are batch tested through third party laboratories.

What is CO2 Extraction? What's the Difference Between Sub-Critical and Super-Critical CO2 Extractions?CO2 extraction is an extraction procedure that uses pressurized CO2 to extract phytochemicals, such as CBD, CBG, terpenes, or flavonoids, from a plant. At certain temperatures and pressures, CO2 acts as a solvent, separating these phytochemicals from the rest of their source plant. This extraction method is the most expensive plant extraction technique, and is commonly considered to be the most reliable; and the safest. While many hemp and CBD companies boast about their super-critical CO2 extractions, super-critical extraction is actually just one approach to CO2 extraction and may produce inferior results. Other approaches include sub-critical CO2 extractions, which use a lower temperature and a lower pressure. Mid-Critical extractions, which use temperatures and pressures falling between those used in sub-and super-critical extractions are also available. Sub-critical CO2 extraction takes more time and produces a smaller yield than super-critical extraction. This procedure, however, is better able to retain many of the important oils, terpenes, and other sensitive chemicals within the plant. Super-critical extraction, on the other hand, is a high-pressure, high-heat procedure that harms most of the plant’s terpenes and heat-sensitive chemicals. The advantage of super-critical extraction is its ability to extract much bigger molecules, such as lipids (omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids), chlorophyll, and waxes. A genuinely full-spectrum CO2 extract consists of an initial sub-critical extraction, a secondary super-critical extraction from the same plant material, and the homogenization of the two resulting in oil a perfect blend. In the vital oil industry, an extract derived from this specific process is described as “CO2 Total.”

Is CBD Psychoactive? Does CBD Oil Cause any Side Effects? Why Am I Not Feeling the Desired Effect? When it comes to the effects of CBD oil, one of the top questions we are asked is “Will it get me high?” The answer is no. Cannabidiol is classified as mildly psychoactive and can actually couteract the psychoactivity of THC. CBD is one of the top cannabinoids present in the hemp plant, with the other abundant cannabinoids being THC, CBD, CBG, and CBDA. THC is the psychoactive cannabinoid that provides users with the ‘high’ that many people associate with cannabis. Family CBD products contain less than 0.3% THC, resulting in no psychoactive effects under normal levels. Our products give you all the benefits of the cannabis plant without the ‘high.’ Hemp is considered to be safe and produces no major adverse side effects. As such, each person will react differently to CBD. Where one person may tolerate the product fine, another may not. Family CBD recommends consulting with your doctor before starting any new products or dietary supplements. Because CBD does not have the psychoactive properties of THC, you won’t feel any type of euphoria or significant alteration of your mental state. Instead, most users feel as if you just took a very effective supplement. The first thing to remember is CBD is not THC and does not provide any psychoactive effects. The relaxing effect of CBD depends on many factors, including the amount consumed, the rate at which it is consumed, your body mass, and your metabolism. Feel free to try all of the Family CBD line of products in search of your desired results. As always, consult with your physician before begining any new supplements.

What is the Difference Between Hemp and Marijuana?Scientifically, industrial hemp and marijuana are different varieties of the same plant, belonging to a similar genus. All strains of industrial hemp belong to the species Cannabis Sativa, while marijuana includes strains belonging to Cannabis Sativa, Cannabis Indica, and Cannabis Ruderalis. *Note, because hemp and marijuana are both forms of cannabis, the term “cannabis oil” can refer to either a hemp- or marijuana-derived oil.” Even among strains of the same species, however, hemp and marijuana exhibit drastically different genetic profiles. Unlike marijuana, most industrial hemp has been bred to be very fibrous, typically characterized by long, strong stalks and very few flowing buds. On the other hand, marijuana plants are smaller, bushier, and full of flowering buds. Excitingly, newer industrial hemp varieties are being bred to bare more flowers and to produce higher yields of cannabinoids and terpenes. The Colorado hemp we use for Family CBD products, for example, is rich in these healthy compounds! It is important to remember that the two types of plant also differ significantly in their levels of THC and CBD. Most marijuana contains high levels of THC and very little CBD. Most hemp, conversely, contains very high levels of CBD and only trace amounts of THC. For this reason, the cannabinoid profile of hemp is ideal for people who want the benefits of cannabis products sans the psychoactive effects, or “high,” produced by most marijuana. Hemp is not marijuana, and will not get you ‘high.’ Hemp, or industrial hemp, is a commonly-used term for Cannabis Sativa plant strains which contain very low levels of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and are typically used for the fiber and seeds. Because of their differences, hemp and marijuana have some distinct uses. Hemp is used for making herbal supplements, food, fiber, rope, paper, bricks, oil, natural plastic, and many other health and material products. Marijuana does not have the same textural qualities; and therefore, tends to be used exclusively for recreational, spiritual, and medicinal purposes. In the U.S.A., Section 7606 of the Agricultural Appropriations Act of 2014, provides a legal definition of industrial hemp: “The term ‘industrial hemp’ means the plant Cannabis Sativa L. and any part of such plant, whether growing or not, with a delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol concentration of not more than 0.3% on a dry weight basis.” Marijuana is a mixture of plant material and the dried flowers of Cannabis Sativa. Though it is often used recreationally, marijuana also has a number of medical uses. it contains high levels of THC, which is the primary psychoactive component that gives users the euphoric feeling generally associated with the drug. Resin is found mainly in the female plant, which growers harvest and dry. Marijuana also contains 500 other compounds, with greater than 100 being from the cannabinoids family. Organic Hemp is considered organic when it is grown and cultivated under certain conditions. Organic hemp farms are located across the U.S. under strict regulations of the Department of Agriculture, the Organic Food Production Act, USDA organic regulations, and the National Organic Program.

Why Would I Choose Hemp Over Medical Cannabis? The low amounts of THC in agricultural hemp make it a more favorable choice for those who would like to experience the benefits without the euphoria, or psyco-toxicity, that is associated with medical cannabis. Also, Family CBD product lines are created in facilities that ensure quality, safety, and efficacy – offering consistent products you can count on. CBD oil is a non-psychoactive component. It has several methods of consumption including edibles (any food item made with CBD oil). It’s usually undetectable by the person eating the food, but it produces the same benefits as the raw oil. It can also be consumed as a water-soluble powder, soft gels, tinctures, and vape juice. Many consumers commonly begin with using CBD oils in tincture form. CBD tinctures have a lower concentration of CBD oil, so they can be used to ease into the experience. Customers can receive CBD simply by adding a small drop to their food or drink, or via sublingual routes. Tinctures come in a variety of flavors, but can be purchased with no flavor as well.
